SRU reject league expansion
Edinburgh
November 12, 1999

At a special general meeting in Edinburgh on Thursday the Scottish Rugby Union rejected a proposal for a 12-team League format from next season
Boroughmuir secretary George Clarke had pleaded passionately for an increased league size, saying: "Scottish club rugby cannot survive on a diet of only nine home games. The future of club rugby is threatened by a diminishing support."
But the move, seconded by Stirling County, was thrown out by 88 votes to 57.
