Paterson out to prove a point

Edinburgh Reivers Chris Paterson seems to have been a victim of his versatility in recent times and this weekend will be no different as he aims to restate his case for a test place. The fly half, who has been touted as a possible Scotland centre is picked at full back for the Reivers in Friday night's clash with Glasgow.
The 21-year-old Edinburgh Reivers player is expected to be in the squad for the game against France at Murrayfield on March 4, which is named by coach Ian McGeechan at lunch time on Thursday. but, with present full back Glenn Metcalfe one of the few players to impress in the defeat by Ireland on Saturday, a call-up in that position against the
French seems unlikely.
Paterson has played most of his rugby for the Reivers at outside centre but the arrival of Jason Hita from New Zealand has shunted him out of that position, while Duncan Hodge retains the fly-half spot.
Reivers coach Bob Easson insists no pressure was put on him to play Paterson in his preferred position - and has no doubts the youngster has the ability to do a job no matter where he plays.
"I played Chris at full-back against Neath and he did very well, which was exactly what I expected," said Easson. "In my opinion, he is the complete rugby player. He has played stand-off, centre, full-back and I don't doubt he could play on the wing as well. As far as full-back is concerned he leads what is in front of him and is
very good at picking angles. With any back division, it is about striking a balance."
"If Chris is going to be selected for Scotland - and I'm sure he is - it will allow the backs to function better because he is such a good player."
