Reivers can still improve claims Hadden
January 6, 2001
Edinburgh Reivers coach Frank Hadden warned his players they needed to discover the killer touch if they hope to progress in the Heineken Cup after snatching a dramatic 17-15 victory over Newport at Myreside. Reivers, who must win against Leinster in Dublin next Friday night, dominated a bruising Welsh/Scottish league contest in the tight exchanges and open play yet were unable to find a way through Newport's stubborn defence. Hadden paid special tribute to his loose forwards, saying: "Our back-row was outstanding and I believe they will get even better as the competition for places intensifies" He acknowledged that Edinburgh had performed admirably up front against the vaunted Newport forwards. "We scrummaged very well considering the quality of the Newport pack," he said. "Opposing teams are also starting to fear our line-out. Newport defended solidly but we are well aware that we aren't scoring enough tries." "We will approach Friday night's game against Leinster with loads of confidence flowing through us and well certainly give it our best shot." |
