Beattie facing long layoff
January 16, 2001

Scotland No.8 Ross Beattie faces a long spell on the sidelines after fracturing a small bone in his neck.

The Newcastle player suffered the injury during a collision during the Tetley's Bitter Cup semi-final against Sale on January 6. Following a series of scans and tests, Beattie is to have his neck in a brace for at least three weeks to try and allow the fracture to heal on its own.

"We are very disappointed for Ross, who has played exceptionally well this season," said Falcons Director of Rugby Rob Andrew. "Ross will be taken care of very well and at present it is not clear how long he will be out for."
