Cross Keys 16 Edinburgh Reivers 10

Cross Keys are celebrating their first victory of the season in the
Welsh-Scottish League as they came from behind to defeat visiting Edinburgh Reivers at Pandy Park this afternoon.

It was always a tight game with the Reivers leading 7-5 at half-time after Scottish international number eight Martin Leslie crossed for a try for the Scotsmen which Duncan Hodge had converted.

Andrew Gibbs went over for an unconverted try for the Keys who went into the match without a point to their credit and languishing in a hopeless position at the foot of the table.

When Hodge increased the Reivers' lead to 10-5 early in the second period it looked as though Cross Keys would suffer yet another miserable afternoon.

But they produced a gutsy fightback with their reliable fullback Chad Bushell reducing the deficit with a penalty goal and then Nick Kelly putting them ahead with a splendid try which went unconverted.

Bushell completed the victory by landing his second penalty of the afternoon and although Cross Keys face an almost impossible task in their bid to stay in the top flight they can still take considerable comfort from this splendid triumph.
