Townsend out for three weeks
February 5, 2001

Scotland fly half Gregor Townsend, who
sustained a knee injury in the Six Nations opener against France, will be out of action for three weeks after an injury diagnosis by his French club Monday.

Townsend, who plays for Castres, was taken off after only four minutes in
Scotland's Stade de France match on Sunday. However, the injury is "not as bad as first feared", according to Castres' sports director, Jacques Cauquil.

Cauquil added that Townsend "could start running again in 10 days and could start playing competitively again in three weeks". His club officials
initially feared a "four to six week lay-off".

Townsend, who was sorely missed in the Scotland lineup in a match
eventually won 16-6 by France, underwent a scan on Monday afternoon which showed only a slightly sprained ligament.
