Lions tour to kick-off earlier
March 15, 2001

The British Lions will play the first match of their Australian tour on June 8, a day earlier than scheduled.

The Lions were scheduled to meet Western Australia in Perth on Saturday, June 9, but it clashed with a proposed game between the Wallabies and New Zealand Maoris at the Sydney Football Stadium on the same night.

"It is preferable that the Wallabies play on the Saturday because they would get a bigger crowd," an ARU spokesman said. "We tend to not want both teams playing on the same night (against other teams)."

The Lions tour consists of 10 games including three Tests against the Wallabies.
