Ireland remain sceptical

Irish officials believe the chances of them being able to complete their Six Nations programme on the dates set by the Championship Committee are still 'far from certain'.

The Six Nations Committee announced yesterday that Ireland's postponed games will be played on consecutive weekends starting with Wales on April 29 in Cardiff, England visiting Lansdowne Road on May 5 and Scotland hosting the side at Murrayfield seven days later.

These latest dates are conditional on approval by the Irish Department of Agriculture who have previously said that they will not lift restrictions on sporting contact with the UK until 30 days after the last outbreak of foot and mouth there.

"We have to prepare on the basis that the games will go ahead as scheduled but, realistically, that is still far from certain," an Irish Rugby Football Union spokesman told the Daily telegraph.

The IRFU are also hopeful that their domestic season can resume a week on Saturday.
