Budge given the all clear
March 16, 2001

Scotland captain Budge Pountney has been passed fit for the Lloyds/TSB Six Nations international with Italy at Murrayfield.

The Northampton flanker had been a doubt after a combination of a knee injury and general wear and tear following a long season for club and country forced coach Ian McGeechan to call Andrew Mower into his 22-man squad.

But Pountney completed a full training session with his team-mates this morning, and although Mower will remain with the party he is not expected to be required. "We couldn't take any chances just in case the injury had developed into something worse," said McGeechan. "There was some fluid on Budge's knee, but we don't envisage any more problems."
