Scots in Euro glory
Lille
May 13, 2001

Scotland's women won the FIRA European Championship in Lille, defeating Spain 15-3 in the final.

The Scots scored a try in each half. Right wing Jennifer Dickson of Richmond set them on their way with a 15th minute blindside try off second-phase possession and although Spain clawed back to 5-3 at the interval with a penalty, Scotland went on to enjoy the better of the second-half.

Their second try came off line-out ball 35 metres out with centre Rimma Petlevannaya (Murrayfield Wanderers) breaking three tackles en route to the touch-down. Her club mate, scrum-half Paula Chalmers, converted and added a 71st minute penalty to complete the scoring.

It was a particularly memorable triumph for Edinburgh Academicals' second-row forward, Lee Cockburn, who was winning her 50th cap in the contest.

Scotland had defeated Wales and France to reach the final while Spain had accounted for Italy and England.
