Henley taken over by Marauders

The invitation Marauders team have won the Henley International Sevens, defeating the NIG Scottish Thistles 15-14 in the final.

Marauders, who included England Sevens specialists Chris Sheasby and Andy Gomarsall, knocked out Fiji Spartans in their semi-final and in the final their strength in contact proved conclusive.

The Thistles - Scotland's Development Team - had an impressive, with Mike Blair of Edinburgh Accies outstanding in wins over Redingensians 33-7 and a President's VII 38-10 in their pool matches.

They then overturned a 0-17 deficit in their semi-final against Cambridge University to triumph 21-17.

Scotland Sevens manager Roy Laidlaw however pronounced himself satisfied with the day's work.

"Overall it was a good exercise," said Laidlaw, "with the boys getting four ties under their belts and the standard of sevens was pretty high.

"Our preparation for the IRB World Series at Twickenham and Cardiff continues next weekend when we compete again as the NIG Scottish Thistles in the Amsterdam International tournament."
