Lomu for Baabaas but only if injury clears
May 14, 2001

New Zealand wing Jonah Lomu has been confirmed as a member of the Barbarians squad to tour Britain last this month but a foot injury could rob the invitation side of his services.

The Hurricanes' winger missed his Super 12 side's latest game against the Auckland Blues because of the injury and he will only play for the Baabaas if the injury clears up in time.

The world's most famous scratch side will play against Wales, Scotland and England at the end of this month with British-based Aussie stars like Jason Little and David Wilson both invited to take part.

Another England-based former international, Ian Jones, who will retire from the game at the end of the season after two years at Gloucester, has been named in the squad along with another former All Black second row Robin Brooke, who has also announced that he is to retire this year from Super 12.

The three Kiwis are in a group of seven New Zealand or New Zealand based players in the Baabaas squad, the others being Craig Dowd and Joeli Vidiri, and Kevin Yates, the former Bath prop, and Frenchman Christian Califano, both now playing their rugby in New Zealand.
