Consistency pays off for Cairns

Ben Cairns believes consistent form for Edinburgh was the telling factor behind his first Scotland call-up.

The 22-year-old, who has played at full-back and centre for Edinburgh, was one of six uncapped players named in Frank Hadden's 35-man training squad for the
RBS 6 Nations campaign.

He joined Edinburgh colleagues Nick de Luca, Ross Rennie and Calum MacRae, and Glasgow Warriors pair Tom Evans and Moray Low, in the uncapped contingent.

Cairns told www.edinburghrugby.org: ``Obviously I'm delighted to be involved.

``I think hopefully my performances throughout the season have led to me getting selected.

``Playing against the likes of Leinster will stand me in good stead when I get the opportunity to join up with the Scotland squad.''
