White, a widely respected official, has taken charge of games at three Rugby World Cups, including the semi-final of the 2003 tournament between Australia and New Zealand. A former centre for Cheltenham, his hometown club, he refereed his first game at 17. In 2003 he was given the honour of controlling the Heineken Cup final between Toulouse and Perpignan but was forced from the field in the first-half with an injury. The former school-teacher refereed Wales' Grand Slam decider against Ireland in 2005, but failed to endear himself to Welsh players and fans in 2007 when a timekeeping error gave Italy a rare win in Rome. White stepped down from the international stage in 2010, having refereed over 50 Tests.
