New Zealander Keith Brown is a rising star in the refereeing world and was appointed to the IRB elite panel in 2010.

A native of Invercargill in the deep south of New Zealand, Brown played rugby until he was 21 before taking up a career with the whistle in 1993, taking charge of his first premier club match in 1995 and made his first class debut in 1999. In 2002, Brown was appointed to the New Zealand National Referee squad and then graduated through the international ranks.

He has taken charge of three Test matches after refereeing in the 2008 Super 14. The international matches he has been in the middle for were Fiji vs Samoa, Samoa vs Papua New Guinea and Japan vs Canada. His experience will be boosted when he referees world champions South Africa when they face Italy in June 2010.
