Maurice McCanlis was a superb allround sportsman who captained Oxford University at cricket (he was a good fast bowler) and also won his Blue as a three-quarter at rugby. He went to play for Gloucester and also won two caps for England. A schoolmaster, he taught at Cheltenham between 1932 and 1966.
