- Ospreys wing Tommy Bowe has been cited for a dangerous tackle on Viadana wing Kaine Robertson during his side's Heineken Cup victory at the Stadio Giglio last Saturday.
Bowe, who won three caps for the British & Irish Lions in South Africa, would likely miss a busy festive period for the Ospreys if found guilty, with Magners League derbies against the Cardiff Blues and Scarlets set for the end of December.
- Scotland will likely be without Northampton prop Euan Murray for their opening Six Nations game against France on February 7 as he will not play on a Sunday due to his religious beliefs.
A devout Christian, Murray has previously played for Scotland on a Sunday, turning out against France in 2008. His decision is likely to open the door to Glasgow tight-head Moray Low.
"We have been talking with Euan for some time now and fully respect his wishes," Scottish Rugby Union chief executive Gordon McKie told BBC Sport.
- Harlequins scrum-half Danny Care has been banned for one week after pleading guilty to a dangerous tackle on Leeds' Rhys Oakley before an RFU panel. Care had already been suspended by his club and will be free to play again on December 17, taking in to account his club sanction.
- Former Queensland Reds coach Phil Mooney has been appointed as the new head coach of Otago for the next two years. He replaces Steve Martin, who resigned this year after Otago finished 10th in the 14-team competition.
Mooney, who coached Queensland from 2007 until this year, has also coached the Australian 'A' and Australian Under-19 teams, and currently has a role as a skills coach with the Brisbane Broncos National Rugby league club. Otago chief executive Richard Reid today said that under a new structure, part of the Australian's role would be to coach coaches with a view to ensuring Otago were well placed in the future.
"He has skills and experience that made him the outstanding candidate for the position and it's up to him now to pass on that expertise to both coaches and players," Reid said. "While it's unusual for an Australian to be appointed to such a high profile coaching role in New Zealand, the determining factor was that we needed the best person for the job in the interests of all who have a passion for Otago rugby."
It is yet to be determined when Mooney will begin his new job but he is expected to settle in Dunedin in February.
- Former Springbok scrum-half Bolla Conradie has joined Boland for next season's Currie Cup. Conradie won the last of his 18 caps in 2008 and spent last season battling with Dewaldt Duvenage and Ricky Januarie for the Western Province No.9 jersey. The Kavaliers have also signed lock Nikolai Blignaut and centre Tyron Hysse.
- Bulls coach Frans Ludeke has announced his squad for the reigning champions' first Super 14 training camps. Bakkies Botha is not expected to return to action until March after undergoing surgery while Chiliboy Ralepelle (foot), Frik Kirsten (neck) and Francois Brummer (groin) are also struggling with injuries. Recent signing Jaco van der Westhuyzen will join the squad following commitments in Japan.
