  • Saracens have been rocked by a serious injury to Italian tight-head Carlos Nieto.

The prop suffered a fractured fibula, a dislocated ankle and ruptured ankle ligaments during the Guinness Premiership victory over Worcester at Wembley and underwent surgery on Sunday.

"This is disappointing news for us all, but we will look after Carlos and his family over the coming months of recovery," Saracens director of rugby Brendan Venter said.

  • London Irish skipper Bob Casey has called for immediate improvement from the Exiles in the wake of their disappointing 35-22 Guinness Premiership loss to Bath at the Madejski Stadium on Sunday.

"It was a very disappointing first-half performance. Since this group of players has been together that's as bad as we've produced," he said. "It's going to be a tough week and we're going to have to ask questions of everyone and put it right for next weekend. We pride ourselves on our defence and we didn't make them work hard for some of their scores in the first half."

  • Greig Laidlaw has signed a two-year contract extension with Magners League side Edinburgh, where he will continue to compete with Scotland's Mike Blair for the No.9 jersey.

  • Gloucester have announced that Scotland scrum-half Rory Lawson has signed a new two-year deal with the Guinness Premiership club.
