Consortium claim free-to-air rights for RWC'11

  • Rugby World Cup Limited (RWCL) has announced that the New Zealand free-to-air broadcast rights for Rugby World Cup 2011 have been awarded to a consortium formed between Māori TV, TVNZ and Mediaworks TV (TV3).

    Under the deal, New Zealanders will be able to watch live free-to-air broadcasts of 16 key matches including the final, the third and fourth play-offs, both semi-finals, two quarter-finals featuring qualifiers from New Zealand's pool, the All Blacks Pool matches and the opening match. This is in addition to all 48 tournament matches being screened live by host broadcaster Sky TV.

    Rugby World Cup Ltd said Maori TV will broadcast live all16 free-to-air games on its English language channel and its Maori language channel Te Reo. TVNZ and TV3 will each screen seven live games. Maori TV will also air delayed coverage of the 32 other matches on free-to-air.

  • The Australian Club Rugby Championship between Sydney's Premiers Sydney University and Brisbane Premiers Brothers will be staged at Crosby Park, Albion on March 13. Brothers earned the right to compete for Australian Club Championship by beating Souths in last years Grand Final 26-19, whilst Sydney University beat Randwick 24-19.
