Dominic Waldouck has signed a new three-year deal with Premiership side London Wasps.

The 22-year-old centre, who was named in England's 32-man senior squad last month after an impressive summer tour, also takes on the vice-captaincy role with hooker Rob Webber. The home-grown pair take over the responsibility of assisting captain Tom Rees from the veteran prop Phil Vickery and flanker Serge Betsen.

Wasps director of rugby Tony Hanks was delighted to re-sign one of his rising stars on a long-term basis at the start of what could be a big year for the centre. "All players are looking at this season with one eye on the World Cup," said Hanks.

"We have known Dom's qualities for a long time. He joined the club as a school-boy. We don't often give out three-year contracts. You have to be confident they are the right people on and off the field. We are delighted to retain the services of such a high-calibre player. Dom's contribution to the club goes way beyond the efforts seen on the pitch. He is a very strong club man who has been a proactive leader both on and off the pitch."

Waldouck is yet to win his first international cap but he would have been on the bench for England's second Test victory against Australia had he not picked up an ankle injury.

"His performances on the domestic stage last season enabled him to show his ability and potential on the international scene with England in the summer - duly rewarded with a place in the elite squad," said Hanks.

Wasps have also signed England Under-20 and Sevens international Christian Wade on a new three-year deal. Wade, who is in England's Commonwealth Games Sevens squad, will spend this season in the Wasps academy before joining the first first-team squad next season.
