American referee Dana Teagarden will make history on December 18 by becoming the first woman to take charge of a senior men's international.

Teagarden will take the whistle for the Netherlands' home tie against Hong Kong in Amsterdam, having previously broken new ground by refereeing games at IRB Sevens World Series events.

She also officiated at this year's Women's Rugby World Cup, including the bronze medal match between France and Australia.

"We are constantly working to establish and implement new and innovative systems and processes to develop all aspects of refereeing," National Panel Referee Manager Richard Every said. "Dana has been an integral part of these initiatives over the past three years.

"Her innate talent and her commitment to our approach have enabled her to perform and be successful at the highest levels. This appointment is indeed a huge honour and achievement for both Dana and USA Rugby Referees."
