Uncapped Northampton flanker Tom Wood has been called into the England squad as injury cover for captain Lewis Moody.

The Rugby Football Union said Bath forward Moody has "general soreness" to his head. Moody skippered England in Saturday's 26-16 defeat against New Zealand at Twickenham. He was replaced by Leeds' Hendre Fourie 13 minutes from time.

It was only Moody's second appearance since suffering an eye injury while playing for Bath against Aviva Premiership rivals Gloucester on October 1. England boss Martin Johnson is due to name his team at 12pm on Tuesday for next Saturday's Twickenham appointment with Australia.

England squad member George Chuter, meanwhile, will remain with his club Leicester and pack down in the Tigers front-row for tomorrow night's tour game against the Wallabies at Welford Road.
