Sale Sharks have added lineout specialist Steve Scott to their coaching staff.

The former Scotland hooker, who won 11 caps during an 18-year playing career, had been working with the Scottish national team as lineout coach before agreeing to link up with the Sharks early, having originally planned to head south in the summer.

"It's really great news for the club that Stevie has agreed to come onboard," Sale boss Mike Brewer said. "He will start working with us on January 1 and I know he will be a great addition to our coaching department.

"As a former hooker he's got superb knowledge of working with the set-piece, especially the lineout, and he'll bring a lot to our game in that regard. Having worked with Stevie I know he shares the same principles and the same ideology as I and he's exactly what I was looking for in a forwards coach."

Scott added: "Working with the national team, as I have been, it's only a short space of time that you get to work with the players and it can be frustrating. So to have this opportunity to work with the players on a day-to-day basis is really exciting.

"But what excites me most is that I know Mike well and I really enjoyed working with him when we were together with Scotland. I was delighted when he made the call asking me to come and work with him at Sale."
