The Brumbies have suffered another setback in their disappointing start to the Super Rugby season with the news that flanker Mitchell Chapman has fractured a cheekbone and will be out of action for six to ten weeks.

The franchise are already without back-rowers Rocky Elsom and Stephen Hoiles, who are not expected to return from their respective hamstring and Achilles injuries for another five to six weeks, leaving them reliant on rookie back-rowers Colby Faingaa and Ita Vaea.

Of Chapman's injury Brumbies team doctor Angus Bathgate told AAP, "We'll know more after he's had his surgery tomorrow."

Bathgate is also waiting on news of winger Henry Speight, who has a suspected fractured jaw, and Wallabies hooker Stephen Moore, who suffered a low-grade ankle sprain.

The Brumbies have suffered three successive defeats, the last two of which have come under new coach Tony Rea, who replaced Andy Friend after round two. The Brumbies' latest defeat was a crushing 52-10 loss to the Crusaders in Nelson.
