Harlequins No.8 Tom Guest has agreed a new contract with the Aviva Premiership club that will keep him at the Stoop until the end of the 2012/13 season.

The 27-year-old, who made his Quins debut against the Natal Sharks in February 2005, has made more than 130 appearances since graduating from the club's academy. His progress has been hampered over the past season with a series of injuries and he suffered a further setback on the opening day of this season when he broke his arm against London Irish.

However he expects to return in time for Quins' opening Heineken Cup match against Connacht at the beginning of November.

Director of rugby Conor O'Shea said: "He has been extremely unfortunate with injury over the past nine months but, up until January, he was arguably our best player. Tom is hugely ambitious to achieve honours with both Harlequins and England, and I have no doubt that, over the next few seasons, he has the capability to achieve his ambition on both fronts"

Guest added: "I am looking forward to getting back on the pitch and helping the team push on in the coming seasons."
