Less than 24 hours after Ruaridh Jackson agreed a contract extension with the Glasgow Warriors, the club has tied another one of its most promising youngsters, Rob Harley, down to a new deal.

Harley, 21, only signed professional terms with the Scottish outfit last summer but has made a huge impact at Glasgow in the past 12 months and was named in Andy Robinson's provisional panel for the Rugby World Cup.

Consequently, the versatile back-row, who captained the Warriors while regular skipper Alistair Kellock was on international duty in New Zealand, was only too happy to put pen to paper on a two-year deal which will keep him at Firhill until the end of the 2013-2014 season.

"Committing to Glasgow Warriors was a straightforward call to make," he told the club's official website. "I've enjoyed my time here immensely and I know it's the right place for me to continue to develop.

"I'd like to thank all the coaches, support staff and fans at the club for helping me to grow as a player in the year and a bit I've been here, and I look forward to sharing a lot more good times with them and the rest of the squad in the coming months and years.

"It's been an honour to captain the team while Al was at the World Cup, and I feel like the club is in a good place both on and off the field as we prepare for another massive game against Ospreys."

Unsurprisingly, head coach Sean Lineen is delighted that another one of his most prized assets has signed a contract extension.

"Rob is a real warrior, in all senses of the term," he said. "He's a real tough competitor with a fantastic work rate who always wants to learn. He's a pleasure to coach, and it's a real boost to have got him tied up on an extended contract."
