Gloucester head coach Bryan Redpath was satisfied with his side's performance despite losing to Toulouse in their opening Heineken Cup match in Pool 6.

The Cherry and Whites were denied a famous victory in France after a late try from Toulouse fullback Clement Poitrenaud. However they did gain a losing bonus point from the match after a strong display at the stade Ernest Wallon.

"I was delighted by the performance and to get a bonus point but obviously it's still a defeat," Redpath said. "We need to take the positives out of this. At this level it all comes down to little things and small margins. And coming here you have to be clean and give nothing away.

"We maybe gave away to much but I can't fault the players and their commitment, it was top draw. We like to play and we have to take encouragement in the way we play - we have some really talented players in this squad."

Gloucester face in-form Harlequins, who are unbeaten so far this season, in round two next weekend but Redpath believes their performance in France has put them in good stead for their visit to the Stoop.

"We will have to take some of that belief into Saturday's game against Harlequins. It's a short turn around but we are looking forward to it and its going to be a huge game. Quins are on a great roll and credit to them.

"We have lost at Kingsholm now, lost our record so we know we have to front up against the top side in England and that's Harlequins."
