Top 14 sides Clermont Auverge and Racing Metro have suffered a blow ahead of their Heineken Cup Round 2 clashes with two of their players handed suspensions.

Clermont lock Jamie Cudmore and Racing flanker Jacque Cronje have both been hit with 20 day bans for foul play. Cudmore was suspended for punching during his side's Top 14 clash with Stade Francais while Racing's Cronje was banned for stamping during their match with Toulon.

Cudmore was shown a yellow card at the time by Ireland's George Clancy following his altercation with Stade scrum-half Jerome Fillol. Clermont face Aironi on Friday in the Heineken Cup and will have to do without their lock. Cronje will miss Racing Metro's trip to Edinburgh in the second round of the Heineken Cup as they look to make amends for their first round loss to Cardiff in Paris.

Both players will miss two rounds of the Top 14 as part of their punishment.
