Former Australia scrum-half Josh Valentine has joined Narbonne on a six-month contract from the Brumbies.

The 28-year-old, who won six caps between 2006 and 2009 and has previously played for the Queensland Reds and Waratahs, will join with the French second-tier club from January 1.

"It is a new challenge for me," he said. "However, this does not mean that I will not return to play in Australia, and if I ever have the opportunity to play for the Australian national team again I would do so with pleasure."

Narbonne have twice been crowned French champions but are currently third from bottom in the second division and were almost relegated due to financial problems last season.

They were recently taken over by Australian investment group FG Management, who bought 75 percent of the club's shares and made a cash injection of some 450,000 euros. Former Australia international Justin Harrison is head coach at the club.
