Leicester Tigers No.8 Thomas Waldrom and Bath winger Matt Banahan have been added to the England training squad ahead of their Six Nations opener against Scotland next Saturday.

Waldrom has been drafted in by interim head coach Stuart Lancaster to replace Gloucester's Luke Narraway who suffered a calf injury during England's open training session in Leeds on Friday having been previously called up as cover for the injured Tom Wood.

Banahan earns a promotion after Gloucester's Henry Trinder, who was also providing temporary injury cover, was struck down with an ankle injury during his side's Anglo-Welsh Cup victory over Cardiff Blues on Saturday.

Both incoming players played for England Saxons in their 23-17 win over the Irish Wolfhounds at Exeter yesterday with Waldrom capping an eye-catching display with a try.

Lancaster is already preparing with for the Calcutta Cup clash without Toby Flood, Courtney Lawes (both knee), Manu Tuilagi (calf) and Wood (foot).

Lancaster will name his captain on Monday and then cut his squad down from 32 on Tuesday night, with the exact starting line-up and bench to be announced on Thursday.
