Bath skipper Stuart Hooper's annus horribilis shows no signs of ending after the side confirmed that he has been sidelined with a fractured thumb.

The second-row will miss four to six weeks of action after sustaining the injury in the West Country derby with Gloucester on Saturday - which Bath lost 14-11. Fellow second-row Dave Attwood missed the clash through injury and Bath will hope he is back in time to face Exeter at the weekend.

Hooper has already been sidelined with a broken arm and a fractured eye socket this term and coach Brad Davis has claimed that Hooper will look to put this year behind him as quick as possible.

"It's a year I'm sure he'll want to put behind him," Brad Davis told BBC Radio Bristol. "You've got to look at the positives. It's a year that's been lost but also a year he can gain back further down the line.

"He's going to be important to us over the next six weeks with what he can do off the field. We'll keep him positive and make sure he comes back as fresh as he can be."
