Former Scotland fly-half Dan Parks has put pen to paper on a two-year deal with Connacht.

Parks retired from international rugby after the Calcutta Cup defeat to England at the start of this year's Six Nations with 67 caps to his name. He has turned out for the Cardiff Blues in the past two seasons, but with the region looking to slash their wage bill ahead of the new salary cap, the 33-year-old has become the region's latest departure.

Hooker Rhys Thomas has reportedly agreed a deal to sign for Wasps while Casey Laulala and Gethin Jenkins are also leaving the region.

But for Connacht, the Australian-born fly-half will bring a wealth of experience to the province. He has already racked up 1,322 points for the Glasgow Warriors and the Blues and has experience of the Aviva Premiership with a short stint at Leeds.

And speaking of the move, Parks said: "It's been a huge decision in my life to move away from Cardiff to Connacht but a move which I am thrilled about. There is a fantastic mix of youth and experience at the club and for me I am really excited about the future of Connacht rugby.

"With my nine years of playing in the league I will be looking to bring that experience to Galway. I am looking forward to the next two seasons and the great challenges that will come with it. The four coaches Eric, Dan, Billy and Mike have lots of energy and are very determined to make Connacht rugby a fun and successful club. I am very happy to be joining a club which I believe is on the up and has a very bright future ahead."
