England brought Fiji back down to earth on day one of the Tokyo Sevens, beating the Hong Kong champions 14-7 to finish the Pool stages unbeaten.

Ben Ryan's side scored tries through Tom Mitchell and Dan Norton to back-up earlier Pool A wins over Japan and France and book a quarter-final against South Africa.

The Blitz Boks progressed to the last eight despite being hammered 38-7 by Samoa in Pool D. Ken Pisi did the damage for the Islanders, who also narrowly saw off the challenge of Portugal and Scotland to secure a last eight tie with Fiji.

New Zealand, the current series leaders, also finished day one unbeaten to progress with ease. The Kiwis saw off Australia 22-10 in their final Pool B match, ensuring a quarter-final against Argentina after further wins over Hong Kong and the USA.

Australia also made it through and will face the other unbeaten team after day one, Wales.

The reigning Rugby World Cup Sevens champions took top spot in Pool C after a 17-5 victory over Argentina, while they were also successful against Russia and Kenya, where Cardiff Blues wing Harry Robinson - a recent call-up to the full Wales squad - was on the scoresheet in a 22-0 success.
