Springboks flanker Schalk Burger is a doubt for their three-Test series with England.

The flanker tore the medial ligaments in his knee in the opening round of Super Rugby games. With the first Test against England on June 9, Burger, who is a candidate for the South African captaincy, admits that he is unsure when he will be fit to return to the side.

"I don't know at this point in time if I'm going to be ready to play [against England], so from my point of view I just want to get fit," Burger told iAfrica. "If you ask any player he'll tell you the injury isn't healing quickly enough, so it's frustrating and I have to take it week by week.

"I'm basically on the pregnant lady training programme with my wife and I've been doing a lot of walking on the Promenade."
