The Ospreys have been handed a boost with the news that young winger Hanno Dirksen has penned a new two-year deal with the region.

Dirksen has scooped the RaboDirect PRO12 Try of the Season award for his score against Edinburgh at Murrayfield in February. Hailing from South Africa, Dirksen has represented the USA Eagles at senior level when he appeared in a non-capped match against Munster in 2008. Dirksen then moved to the UK and took up a contract with Swansea in 2009. After excelling at club level, the Ospreys snapped him up in January 2011.

Dirksen will now look to develop his game at the Ospreys and he is hoping to push on next term."I've been given some chances this season and I think I've taken them the best I can," Dirksen said. "It's great to be playing and training with top class players, Wales internationals and Lions, it's been an absolutely amazing year for me.

"It's nice to be in a squad with so many top class players that I can learn off."

The winger is one of three foreign-born stars on Wales' radar. Rob Howley admitted in a press conference earlier this week that he is keeping an eye on the progress of Dirksen along with Blues forwards Andries Pretorious and Michael Paterson.

Pretorious becomes eligible later this summer with Paterson qualifying in the summer of 2013. Dirksen will have to wait a while longer however with him not eligible until January 2014.
