The Sharks have confirmed the signing of Springboks centre Francois Steyn on a three-year deal.

Steyn left the Sharks back in 2009 to take up a contract with Top 14 Orange side Racing Metro where he has since made 61 appearances. With South African rugby embracing the new era under Heyneke Meyer, Steyn has decided to return back to Durban and add to his 47 caps for the Springboks.

Sharks coach John Plumtree is delighted to have Steyn back at Kings Park saying: "It is great to have him back with us as we did miss him. He was definitely an influential player when he left and he will again be that, so it is fantastic to have him with the Sharks."

For Sharks CEO Brian van Zyl, the move highlights their intention to compete at the highest level of southern hemisphere rugby. He said: "The present focus is on depth and ability to actively compete in every position in the squad so we are delighted to have Francois back with us to provide that strength in our backline, not to mention his accurate boot."
