Sale Sharks boss Bryan Redpath has confirmed that they are looking to add a centre to their squad before the start of the new 2012-13 Aviva Premiership season.
Reports suggest that Sale offered a deal to Mike Tindall who was out of contract at Gloucester at the end of last season, but Tindall has opted to stay at Kingsholm in a player/coach capacity. Redpath will now turn his sights elsewhere as he looks to bolster his options in the midfield.
Luther Burrell left Sale to join Northampton at the end of last season while Joaquin Tuculet moved to Grenoble and Iain Thornley returned to rugby league. Redpath now has Sam Tuitopou and Johnny Leota at his disposal but it seems likely that he needs one extra face.
"We will still be looking for a centre but we are not going to rush into it," Redpath told the Manchester Evening News. "Obviously we've got Sam, Jonny, Will [Addison] and another promising young guy in Jordan Davies on board.
"But we will be looking out for a centre over the next two or three weeks and we have to make sure that we pick the right one. The key thing is selecting a player who will help everyone here and add to the squad rather than signing someone who will just fill a place. There are no specific irons in the fire right now but we may well have a look around the southern hemisphere over the next few weeks and see who is available.
"Mike made his decision last week after careful consideration which is quite right. Now, from our point of view, there's not a mad rush - we just have to ensure that we identify the right person."
