Springboks fly-half Johan Goosen is set to miss their end-of-year tour to the northern hemisphere.

Goosen tore ligaments in his knee while turning out for the Boks against the All Blacks on Saturday and reports in the South African press suggest that he will undergo surgery on Tuesday.

The news means that Goosen is set for a period of between three and six months on the sidelines which therefore rules him out of the Springboks' trip to the northern hemisphere in November.

With Goosen out of the picture, Heyneke Meyer will be forced to look elsewhere at fly-half. He opted to start Morne Steyn at No.10 for their first four matches of the Rugby Championship but then switched to Goosen for their final two Tests with Steyn suffering from a loss of form.

Elton Jantjies took to the field on Saturday when Goosen limped off so he could be an option for Meyer while Pat Lambie could also start at fly-half when they kick-off their European tour against Ireland in Dublin on November 10.
