Adam Jones has withdrawn from the Wales squad for the autumn internationals due to a knee injury.

The tight-head prop has been struggling with the injury since the Ospreys' Heineken Cup defeat to Leicester Tigers last weekend and has now been forced to withdraw from Wales' squad after seeing an orthopaedic consultant on Friday.

Jones is set to be sidelined for six to 10 weeks, ruling him out of international matches against Argentina, Samoa, New Zealand and Australia, starting on November 10. The loss of the prop would be a sizeable blow as Wales look to bounce back from their 3-0 series defeat to Australia in the summer.

The 31-year-old had been due to travel to Poland for a training camp with the rest of the Wales squad this weekend but he will remain behind for further treatment. Interim coach Rob Howley has called up Scarlets prop Samson Lee for their training camp and Jones' absence could open the door for Ospreys team-mate Aaron Jarvis, who has yet to be capped at international level.

A decision on whether Lee now joins the autumn Test squad permanently, or another player is called up, will be made at a later date.

Jones, who has won 83 caps and played in two Tests for the British and Irish Lions on their 2009 South Africa tour, originally injured his knee last month but his early exit against Leicester set alarm bells ringing.
