Wales international Alun Wyn Jones is set for shoulder surgery that will sideline him for an estimated four months.

The Ospreys lock appears in danger of missing the start of next year's Six Nations after sustaining an injury to his AC joint during Wales' 26-12 defeat to Argentina in Cardiff last Saturday. He was ruled out of the remainder of Wales' autumn international earlier this week and now his region have revealed the extent of the injury and the extent of his likely lay-off.

A 16-week absence would see the Lions second row miss the first three games of Wales' campaign against Ireland, France and Italy. The injury is also a significant blow to the Ospreys as Jones will definitely miss the remainder of their testing Heineken Cup Pool Two campaign, with crucial games against Toulouse (twice), Leicester and Treviso still to come.

Ospreys physio Chris Towers said: "He is due to undergo the surgery at the end of this week, and we will be looking at a 12-16 week rehab process post-op to get him back on the field."
