McCabe on track for Brumbies comeback

Australia centre Pat McCabe is on track to make his comeback from injury in the Brumbies opening Super Rugby clash in February.

McCabe finally took off a neck brace on Monday which has worn for the past three months after fracturing his neck on the Wallabies' end-of-season tour to Europe in November.

The Wallabies centre is expected to be fully fit for the Brumbies' Super Rugby round one clash with the Melbourne Reds on February 16.

Brumbies coach Jake White is also monitoring the fitness of Clyde Rathbone as he makes his comeback to Super Rugby after overcoming depression and a series of knee injuries.

"Clyde Rathbone, we're still looking at him," White told the Sydney Morning Herald. "Patty, we're obviously still looking at his neck, but it's positive, the surgeon said it's 99 per cent healed.

"All things being equal that means he will be available [for round one], but whether physically he's going to put on the weight we want him to and get back to the physical state we want him to be for round one because it will be a tough game anyway, we don't want to be rushing him in.

"Those two guys are the two concerns we have at this stage, the rest look like they are all on board."
