Wallabies winger Joe Tomane has been left on the Brumbies bench for Saturday night's Super Rugby match against Queensland Reds at Canberra Stadium.

Brumbies coach Jake White named instead Fijian flyer Henry Speight and comeback hero Clyde Rathbone, who returns to Super Rugby after a three-year retirement.

Former Melbourne Storm and Gold Coast Titans NRL flyer Joe Tomane played the first Test of 2012 for Australia before injury cut his season short.

White was originally set to continue this week's niggling tit-for-tat with the Reds by naming a squad, but he relented during his media conference on Thursday to reveal his starting side and bench.

Queensland director of coaching Ewen McKenzie earlier delayed announcing his team until Friday to keep an "air of mystery" over his tactics for the Rod Macqueen Cup fixture.

"This is by far the best side we can put on the field this weekend," White said.

"There's no point in playing ducks and drakes out there. This is our team, we know our job and we are looking forward to putting it into action."

Wallabies flanker David Pocock will make his Brumbies Super Rugby debut at No.7, locking horns with heir apparent Liam Gill.

Matt Toomua will start at five-eighth, while the creative Christian Lealiifano - a star of last season's resurgence before suffering a horrific ankle injury - will line up at inside centre.

Brumbies: Jesse Mogg; Henry Speight, Andrew Smith, Christian Lealiifano, Clyde Rathbone; Matt Toomua, Nic White; Ben Mowen (captain), David Pocock, Peter Kimlin; Sam Carter, Scott Fardy; Dan Palmer, Stephen Moore, Ben Alexander. Replacements: Siliva Siliva, Ruaidhri Murphy, Colby Faingaa, Fotu Auelua, Ian Prior, Joseph Tomane, Robbie Coleman.
