Hurricanes captain Conrad Smith will take his place at centre after fears he may have suffered concussion in Saturday's opening Super Rugby loss to the Blues have been allayed.

However, three changes have been made to the side to play the Reds in Brisbane on Friday.

Tighthead prop Jeffery Toomaga-Allen returns while hooker Motu Matu'u has recovered from a pectoral injury suffered during pre-season training and will be on the bench.

Mark Reddish's hamstring injury has seen James Broadhurst move onto the bench as his replacement. Also not considered for the game were: Jack Lam (knee), Eric Sione (shoulder) and Blade Thomson (ankle).
