Chiefs flanker Sam Cane believes there is plenty to work on after his side's comprehensive 45-3 win over the Cheetahs at Waikato Stadium on Saturday night.
The result was built on defence as much as it was on attack, and it was no surprise to see Cane, who plies his domestic trade with Bay of Plenty, featuring heavily.
Cane said his selection over fellow flanker Tanerau Latimer in the run-on side for the team's opening two fixtures was a result of consistency in training.
"It's an extremely competitive team," Cane said. "There's not much difference between the starting 15, the guys on the bench and even the guys that miss out. Training counts for a lot when you're getting in the start or the 22; it's a competitive team but it can only be good."
The Chiefs were rusty defensively in the first half, but still they kept the Cheetahs to three points.
"When we did have the ball we made silly mistakes then on defence we were giving away silly penalties that were putting us under the pump," Sam Cane said.
