Springboks winger Bryan Habana faces 10 weeks on the sidelines after becoming the second high-profile Super Rugby player in as many matches to sustain a serious knee injury.

Just hours after Walabies captain David Pocock sustained what was believed to be an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his left knee, playing for the Brumbies against New South Wales Waratahs, Habana left the field at Newlands on a Medi-cab after he was hurt in a 55th-minute tackle.

Habana fell awkwardly after he was tackled by Chiefs flanker Sam Cane.

"Bryan's done his MCL [medial collateral ligament] and, conservatively, he could be out for 10 weeks" Stormers coach Allister Coetzee said of his side had defeated the Chiefs 36-34 to claim their first win of the season.

"He could be back after seven weeks but, conservatively, I'd say it's 10."

Habana, South Africa's all time leading try-scorer in Tests and Super Rugby, is due to join French Top 14 leaders Toulon on a three-year contract after the season.

The wingers has scored 47 tries in 83 Tests for South Africa, and 53 tries in 108 Super Rugby matches for the Bulls and the Stormers
