It has been announced that former Ohio State star running back Maurice Clarett will try out for the Columbus affiliate of Tiger Rugby, the rugby developmental program for selecting the team that will represent the USA at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. The Ohio Rugby Sevens Invitational will take place in Mechanicsburg, Ohio, on May 25.

Clarett spent one successful season at Ohio State but was thrown out after one season when he became the centre of a scandal involving improper benefits. He then joined the Denver Broncos in 2005 but was released before ever playing a game.

He subsequently served 3½ years in prison on robbery and concealed weapons charges, then played for the Omaha Nighthawks in the UFL in 2011. He released a book in 2012 in which he boasted of making plenty of money in college and described a life of guns and drugs.
