Chiefs re-sign Gareth Anscombe

Gareth Anscombe has recommitted to the Chiefs until the end of the 2014 Super Rugby season, the Auckland five-eighth grateful for the faith shown in him by the 2012 champions and 2013 New Zealand conference leaders after being discarded by the Blues. He was snapped up by the Chiefs last year, since when he has impressed playing out of position at fullback. "I am really enjoying the culture and the challenging environment which I believed has really helped grow my game and my confidence," the competition's second highest points-scorer, with 163 points, said. Anscombe, 22, is one of six players who re-signed with the Hamilton franchise on Monday. Former All Blacks training squad member Ben Tameifuna is also locked in for the 2014 season, while Andrew Horrell, Rhys Marshall, Pauliasi Manu and Michael Fitzgerald signed until the end of 2015. "They are all good players but more importantly, good men," Chiefs coach Dave Rennie said. "We've been really impressed with the contribution these men have made to our club and are rapt they are committing beyond this year." All six players are in contention to play the Hurricanes at Waikato Stadium on Friday night.
