Ex-Sale Sharks boss and current Russia coach Kingsley Jones has joined the management team at RaboDirect PRO12 side Newport Gwent Dragons.

The former Wales captain, who is set to take charge of the forwards for the forthcoming season, has long-been tipped to join recently-appointed director of rugby Lyn Jones at Rodney Parade having worked alongside him at London Welsh last season.

"It's an exciting challenge for me to be able to coach in Wales and I am looking forward to taking it on," Jones said in a statement. "I want to help to develop the youngsters in the team to and push the Dragons up the table."

Lyn Jones said: "I thoroughly enjoyed working alongside Kingsley last season at London Welsh, he delivered what was asked and more, becoming very popular with the squad. Kingsley will assist with all skill and technique development with squad, then specialise on forward play, as we build a happy and positive environment where players learn, improve and enjoy each other on and off the field."

In related news, the Dragons have bolstered their squad ahead of the new season with the re-signing Jason Tovey. The 24-year-old fly-half returns to region where he made his name after one season with PRO12 rivals Cardiff Blues.
