Super Rugby
Hoeata banned after third yellow card
July 1, 2013

Flanker Jarrad Hoeata will miss the Highlanders' next Super Rugby match after being suspended for a week for persistent offending.

Hoeata faced an automatic SANZAR judicial hearing after receiving his third yellow card of the season during the 40-12 loss to the Crusaders in Dunedin on Saturday.

The 29-year-old was sent to the sin bin after running his hand across the face of Crusaders halfback Andy Ellis.

South African judicial officer Jannie Lubbe reviewed the three yellow card incidents and offered Hoeata a one-week suspension, which the player accepted.

He will miss the match against the Hurricanes on Saturday but be available for the last match of the last-placed Highlanders' season against the Melbourne Rebels on July 12.

Hoeata, who played three Tests for the All Blacks in 2011, has featured in 13 of 14 games this season for the Highlanders at either lock or blindside flanker.

He is the second Highlanders player to be banned this week after All Blacks second five-eighth Ma'a Nonu was handed a three-week ban following his red card for a tip tackle on the Crusaders' Tom Marshall.
