Gloucester thrashed a second-string Japan side 40-5 at Kingsholm on Tuesday evening.

Japan made 14 changes from the side that faced Scotland on Saturday and went over first with Justin Ives rumbling over. But their joy proved to be short-lived as Charlie Sharples scored a hat-trick and James Simpson-Daniel added a further try before the break.

Despite scrum-half Atsushi Hiwasa doing his best to turn the tide, Gloucester added further scores through Steph Reynolds and Matt Cox. Japan's next Test is against Russia on Friday.
